Newcastle United forced to trigger Nick Woltemade transfer clause - on one condition

Newcastle United have already paid a club-record fee to sign German forward Nick Woltemade.

Newcastle United must stump up extra cash to Stuttgart should Nick Woltemade meet several “unrealistic” stipulations.

Toon chiefs pulled the trigger on a club-record deal last month to sign the German international. The fee has been widely reported as £69million, eclipsing the £63million paid for Alexander Isak three years ago.

Woltemade hit the ground running - bagging a debut goal as the Magpies won 1-0 against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Eddie Howe threw the 23-year-old in the deep end after losing proven Premier League operator Yoane Wissa to injury.

Nick Woltemade add-ons revealed

German media have debated the Bundesliga’s pulling power after Bayern Munich missed out on rising stars Woltemade and Florian Wirtz. Newcastle and Liverpool splashed out a combined £180million for the pair - showing the Premier League’s financial muscle.

Bild have reported on the add-ons the Magpies must pay if specific conditions are met. However, while the Toon hierarchy are ambitious, most of these appear

The largest is a £1.7million payment if Newcastle win the Premier League. The same figure applies if the Magpies lift the Champions League, while reaching the semi-final is worth £850,000.

Should Woltemade win the Premier League’s Golden Boot, Newcastle will be ordered to pay £500,000. As mentioned, a lot of these terms seem far-fetched just one game into his St James’ Park career.

Eddie Howe on Nick Woltemade

Howe revealed there was “a lot of love” for Woltemade after the Wolves win. He told reporters: “There was a lot of love for Nick (after the game) and a lot of pats on the back. The group are really good at doing that, when someone does well.

“It was a great moment for Nick. I was very pleased with how he played. You saw his technical qualities and his intelligence. But most importantly for a striker, when the ball comes into the box, you need to be there - and he was.

“It was a great finish. I’m really pleased for him personally because that just settles him down and relaxes him. He’s a very humble guy, he wants to do well and he’s delighted to be here. I think it’s a great start.”

‘He’s the legend’ - Nick Woltemade

Speaking post-match, Woltemade called Alan Shearer a “legend” after the Newcastle hero praised his headed goal on social media. The £69million record buy admitted he has been working on his aerial ability.

"Of course, he's the legend,” Woltemade said. “He scored a lot of goals and, of course, I'm happy about it. I worked a lot on it the last weeks, the last months and the last year.

“With my height, I guess you have to. You can get more goals if you can have a good header. A header always feels good as a striker, especially if you work on it every week, so I was just happy when the ball was going in."
