In May of this year, Trump and the NFL played nice, with a White House announcement that the 2027 NFL Draft would take place in Washington, D.C. "It's such an honor to have that," Trump said. Two months later, Trump threatened to derail the deal to build a stadium in Washington because he didn't like the name change of the local team in 2020. "I may put a restriction on them that if they don’t change the name back to the original 'Washington Redskins,' and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, 'Washington Commanders,' I won’t make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington. … MAKE INDIANS GREAT AGAIN (MIGA)!," he wrote.
