Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has confirmed that the club are planning for deadline day signing Yoane Wissa to be available for selection after the international break.

The striker completed a move to St. James' Park late in the summer window, but is yet to make his debut for the club due to a knee issue. As reported by ChronicleLive, the injury is not as bad as first feared, and it is hoped that the striker could make his debut four to five weeks after the assessment.

Giving the latest on the striker in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League clash against Barcelona, Howe said: "Yoane will - we hope - be back after the next international break, so that's the plan. That can always change, it's always flexible... but I think that's what I've been told."

If that timeline does go to plan then it means that Wissa's debut could come in the Premier League away clash against Brighton on Saturday, 18 October.

It does, however, mean that he will miss the upcoming clash with Barcelona as well as Premier League games against Bournemouth and Arsenal. He will also be out for the Carabao Cup clash vs Bradford.

Wissa picked up the problem while on international duty with DR Congo, just days after completing his move to the club. The 29-year-old tried to play on, but the injury eventually forced him off the pitch.

If Wissa does make his return against Brighton, then he should also be available for the remaining Champions League group stage games. Newcastle face Benfica (H) on 21 October, before taking on Athletic Club (H), Marseille (A), Bayer Leverkusen (A), PSV Eindhoven (H) and Paris Saint-Germain (A).
