Harvey Elliott needed just two outings to find the net following his departure from Liverpool. The midfielder secured a deadline day loan switch to Aston Villa, with the club committed to completing a permanent £35 million deal during the upcoming summer window.

Elliott emerged from the international break to make his bow for the Premier League outfit when they faced Everton at the weekend. A second outing quickly materialised on Tuesday night as Villa tackled Brentford in the Carabao Cup's third round.

The 22 year old prospect found the back of the net with a cleverly executed effort moments before the interval. John McGinn robbed an opposing defender, allowing his fresh teammate to pounce on the wayward ball and guide a finish past Brentford shot-stopper Hakon Valdimarsson.

Regrettably for Elliott, his new team couldn't preserve their lead and ultimately succumbed in a spot-kick contest following Aaron Hickey's leveller during normal time. Matty Cash and McGinn failed from the spot for Villa, with Elliott absent from their quintet of penalty takers.

Celebrating his personal achievement, he shared on Instagram: "Glad to get off the mark last night, but unfortunate to go out. Go again Sunday [prayer emoji].", reports the Mirror.

From his ex-Reds colleagues, Tyler Morton provided the warmest support. The midfielder, who similarly left Anfield this summer for Lyon, replied: "What a guy."

Among those who gave the social media post a thumbs up were current Liverpool players Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Kaide Gordon, Rio Ngumoha, Ryan Gravenberch, Trey Nyoni, Virgil van Dijk, Vitezslav Jaros, and Wataru Endo.

A number of former Reds who have moved on in recent years also liked the post, including Caoimhin Kelleher, Luis Diaz, Naby Keita, and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

For Villa, Elliott's arrival seems to be perfectly timed. Despite their cup exit, it marked their first goal in competitive action for the 2025/26 season.

Liverpool will keep an eye on the Englishman's progress as they could benefit further from moving the player on. As part of the deadline day transfer agreement, the Reds included both a sell-on clause and a buy-back clause.

It means Liverpool could profit further from the player in the future. That would be either if another club purchases him or his development impresses them enough to trigger a bid to bring him back to Anfield.
