VAR was forced to intervene to overturn a hilariously terrible decision to award Liverpool a penalty against Atletico Madrid.
In a first-half where Liverpool dominated their Spanish opponents, taking a 2-0 lead inside six minutes, the Reds were almost gifted the chance to pile the misery on.
Five minutes before half-time, referee Maurizio Mariani pointed to the spot to the bemusement of everyone in the stadium.
It appears that the referee, or linesman, thought that Atletico defender Clement Lenglet had handled the ball while sliding in to block a cross from Jeremie Frimpong.
The Liverpool right-back tried to cut the ball back towards the penalty spot after bursting towards the touchline, only for Lenglet to turn the ball behind for a corner... with his chest.
However, that wasn't how the officials saw it as a penalty was awarded, seemingly for handball. But thankfully, VAR came to the rescue on this occasion to spare the officials' blushes as Mariani went to the screen and overturned the decision.
As TNT Sports played the replays of the incident, Ally McCoist was left in utter disbelief as he fumed: "It's actually embarrassing".
Diego Simeone was somehow able to keep his cool throughout the whole nonsense, and he will be incredibly grateful to VAR for potentially keeping the game alive.

On the stroke of half-time, Marcos Llorente pulled one back for the visitors to half the deficit to 2-1 heading into the break.
A brief VAR review was required with Antoine Griezmann possibly offside in the eyeline of Alisson, but common sense prevailed again from the official behind the screen as the goal was given, with the Reds stopper having no chance of keeping the effort out.
