The New York Giants are off to a 0-2 start to their season, and one of their new players is getting some heat thrown his way.

The New York Giants seemed to have some promise going into the 2025-26 season, and they still have potential, but they’re going to have to start closing in on some wins. The Giant’s second game of the season came down to the wire, and they put up a great fight against Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys. But, in the end, the Giants fell to the Cowboys in overtime, 40-37.

The Giants do have some great talent, such as veteran quarterback Russell Wilson and rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. Wilson had a great game and threw for 450 yards with three touchdowns. “This game meant a lot to me. It was time to answer the call,” Wilson said after the game. “So that for me was important to do that. Not for anyone else, but for myself.”

But, one of the Giants’ rookies is getting some heat thrown his way ahead of the team’s Week 3 game Sunday night game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Both teams are 0-2 heading into this game, and both teams want to win, badly. The Giants are considered one of the weaker teams in the NFL, but they should still believe in themselves that they can pull off a surprise win over the Chiefs.

New York Giants Rookie Under Fire

There are a number of teams in the NFL that are really under pressure going into Week 3. One of them is the Giants. In a Monday, September 15 feature for Bleacher Report, Alex Kay discusses the quarterbacks and players under the most pressure in Week 3 of the NFL.

“Due to factors like fortunate luck, scheduling and injuries, some still must prove they aren’t pretenders and have what it takes to contend despite their respectable starts,” he notes, adding that “several teams have stumbled out of the gate by losing back-to-back matchups.”

For the New York Giants, he makes the blunt statement that “Abdul Carter, New York’s prized rookie edge-rusher, hasn’t made the impact expected when Big Blue took him No. 3 overall in the 2025 draft. Through his first two career games, Carter has recorded a meager four tackles, two QB hits and a half-sack.”

He adds that Carter had 38 defensive snaps, meaning 54%, in Week 1 and 67 defensive snaps, which was 75%, in Week 2. He had only one tackle and one quarterback hit.

“The Penn State product must improve if the Giants are going to have any chance of turning things around after a winless start,” Kay adds.

New York Giants’ Opponent Also in the Hot Seat

What’s interesting is that Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs is also in the hot seat in this tally. Mahomes, of course, will be heading up the Chiefs against the Giants.

“Since taking over as the starter in 2018, Patrick Mahomes has never opened a season with back-to-back losses,” Kay says about Mahomes. “Counting Kansas City’s Super Bowl LIX defeat, it’s also the first time a Mahomes-led squad has lost three consecutive games at any point.”

It would be a real thrill to see the Giants surprise everyone and pull off a win against the Chiefs. Stranger things have happened, especially on football Sunday.
