Los Angeles Chargers star Khalil Mack has been placed on injured reserve, but his 2025 season is not over.
Edge rusher Mack suffered a dislocated elbow in the Chargers' 20-9 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday, which put Los Angeles top of the AFC West with a 2-0 record.
The injury is not severe enough to bring a premature end to his campaign, though Mack will now miss the next four games after being placed on IR with a designation to return.
Asked whether the Chargers would bring in outside help on the edge to help fill the void in Mack's absence, head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters: "We'll look. We're always looking.
"We'll see what the coming days bring. Competitors always welcome."
When will Mack return?

Mack's injury will see the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year miss this Sunday's meeting with the Denver Broncos, as well as games against the New York Giants, Washington Commanders and Miami Dolphins.

A four-game absence would see Mack return for the Week 7 clash with the Indianapolis Colts on October 19.
At 34, Mack remains a defender who can cause great disruption to opposing offenses. He had 17 sacks in the 2023 season, though that tally dipped to six last year. He registered his first sack of the 2025 campaign in the win over Las Vegas.

Tuli Tuipolotu, who had a career-high 8.5 sacks last season, will be under pressure to deliver in Mack's absence, while veteran Bud Dupree and rookie second-round pick Kyle Kennard are likely to see more snaps.
