How Stefon Diggs Hopes To Impact Young Patriots Offense

Stefon Diggs is assuming a different role with the New England Patriots.

Once one of the game’s most prolific playmakers, Diggs is still finding his footing in his return from an ACL tear. The wide receiver has begun his 11th season with 10 catches for 89 yards in two games.

Diggs explained Wednesday, via MassLive’s Mark Daniels, that he’s aiming to contribute however he can to the offense’s growth.

“I want to be a key point in this offense as far as being part of the sail with things going in the right direction,” Diggs said. “We’ve got a young team. We’re out there fighting. We’re out there getting on the same page. You see things clicking here and there. I just want to be part of it.”

Diggs wants to be a stabilizing presence for quarterback Drake Maye, who connected with the Pro Bowler on four of five targets for 32 yards during Sunday’s 33-27 win over the Miami Dolphins.

“I’m just trying to do what I’m asked and be consistent,” Diggs added. “Having a young quarterback that can ball – just trying to be in the right spot for him, gaining that confidence throughout games, I think is going to pay dividends for us.”

Diggs sat out the preseason after limited offseason activity, so the 31-year-old is still reacclimating himself to in-game action following last year’s ACL injury. He’s learning the offense while getting comfortable taking hits post-surgery.

“I’m used to contact, but getting used to reaction-based, putting my feet in the ground consistently. That’s really what it is,” Diggs said. “I missed football so much. I love being out there.”

Diggs will look to lead the Patriots to a Week 3 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday.
