Kane overtakes Beckham to make Champions League history as he dismantles Chelsea

Harry Kane dazzled for Bayern Munich yet again as they ran out as 3-1 winners against Chelsea in the Champions League.

The England captain found the back of the net on two occasions on Wednesday night as Bayern made a strong start to the league phase.

After an own-goal from Trevoh Chalobah, Kane first netted a penalty to hand his side a two-goal advantage in the 27th minute.

Cole Palmer finished off an excellent move to reduce the deficit for Chelsea but Kane later added his second from a Blues error.

The 32-year-old's goals have seen him reach 53 involvements in the Champions League.

This is the most ever for an Englishman, and he has overtaken the legendary David Beckham in the process.

Furthermore, Kane has become the third player to ever scored 20 or more Champions Legaue goals for two different clubs.

He has hit 21 for both Bayern and Tottenham, with Neymar totalling 22 with Paris Saint-Germain and 21 with Barcelona.

However, it's Cristiano Ronaldo who tops the list on 105 goals for Real Madrid and 21 with Manchester United.

Bayern breeze past Blues

The Allianz Arena hosted the first meeting between Bayern and Chelsea in five years.

It's a stadium that sits deep in the hearts of Blues fans as it's where they won their first ever Champions League title in 2012.

However, their last visit eight years later ended in a 4-1 defeat, with Wednesday's result not much better.

Chelsea made a bright start on the night but their hard work was undone when Chalobah found his own net from close range.

Bayern were then awarded a penalty doubled their lead as Kane fired in past Robert Sanchez.

Palmer swiftly brought Chelsea back into the match with his second goal in two matches.

But a lapse in concentration shortly after the hour mark allowed Kane to net yet again with his tenth goal of the season already for Bayern.

Chelsea fought back yet again late on as Palmer found the target for a second time, although it was ruled out for offside.

The Blues lost their first Champions League fixture since 2023.
