In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discuss Justin Fields' injury, what New York Jets fans should expect from Tyrod Taylor, Micheal Clemons' struggles, and the team's upcoming Week 3 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The show started with a discussion of the news that Justin Fields would miss this week's game due to a concussion. Jets head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters on Wednesday that Fields had already been ruled out for Week 3, forcing veteran Tyrod Taylor to start in his place.
Justin and Mike broke down what Jets fans should expect from Taylor and how different the team's offense will look with a different quarterback under center. Does Taylor have it in him to pull off a stunning upset?
The Gang Green Stat Machine (GGSM) returned for another week soon after, as Justin and Mike broke down a number of interesting statistical takeaways from Sunday's game. The first segment of the GGSM was a look at some brutal Justin Fields stats from Week 2.
That shifted into a broader conversation about the Jets' defensive line, specifically focusing on the likes of Micheal Clemons, Jowon Briggs, and Will McDonald. Briggs was the lone standout from Sunday's game and could develop into a long-term piece on this Jets' defense. The conversation was different with the other two, however.
The Jets' continued insistence to play Clemons frustrated Justin, as Mike did his best to play devil's advocate. It was tough to defend Aaron Glenn's quote on Clemons before Wednesday's practice, though.
As for McDonald, while he remains the Jets' most talented pass rusher, his issues in run defense are becoming impossible to ignore. McDonald is a situational pass-rusher who the Jets are asking to be a full-time starter, and it's hurting the defense.
Justin and Mike discuss McDonald's long-term future in New York and just how much of a liability he's been. Spoiler alert: it's a big problem.
