To start off the 2025 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs have gone 0-2. Not many saw that start coming, with losses to the Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles having Patrick Mahomes and company in a little bit of trouble.
While the season is still young and there is plenty of time for the Chiefs to turn things around, the start they have had has been troubling.
Offensively, the team has not looked the same. Mahomes has gotten off to a rough start and Kansas City as a whole has not looked very explosive.
With that in mind, could the Chiefs consider making some moves to help improve their offensive?
One potential option has been suggested. That option would see Kansas City pull off a trade with the Cleveland Browns to bring in another offensive weapon.
So far through the first two games of the year, the Chiefs' running backs have mustered up just 94 yards on 28 carries with no touchdowns. Mahomes is currently their leading rusher with 123 yards and two touchdowns on 13 attempts.
Obviously, that isn't going to get the job done.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report has suggested Kansas City as a top-tier trade suitor for Browns running back Jerome Ford. He could bring some firepower to the Chiefs' struggling running game.
Ford has not had much of a role in Cleveland this season, carrying the football just 12 times for 39 yards and catching six passes for 20 yards.
Last season, he played in 14 games and picked up 565 yards and three scores on 104 carries. Back in 2023, he ran the ball 204 times for 813 yards and four touchdowns.
As a receiver out of the backfield in 2024, he caught 37 passes for 225 yards. In 2023, he racked up 44 receptions for 319 yards and five touchdowns.
While Ford might not be the one-move fix for the Kansas City offense, he could be a quality addition. Knox also suggested that the likely asking price from the Browns would be a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick.
If that is indeed the price tag, the Chiefs should strongly consider pursuing him. He could help spice up their running game, but could also be a weapon for Mahomes in the passing game. That skill-set would be valuable for Kansas City to add.
