‘ESPN can fire me!’ Host claims NFL conspiracy with Chiefs against Giants

A New York sports radio personality believes the NFL will ensure the Giants lose Sunday night’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs to prevent Kansas City from remaining winless.

On Monday afternoon’s “Don, Hahn & Rosenberg” show on ESPN New York, Don La Greca said he was worried about the Giants’ chances of winning the game because he feared the league would protect the Chiefs from losing because of the star power surrounding them.

“The league won’t allow it,” La Greca said. “I’m just going to throw it out there. The NFL is not going to allow the Chiefs to start 0-3. There’s too much on the line. I’m sorry. Call me a conspiracy theorist and ESPN can fire me. The NFL is not going to allow the Kansas City Chiefs to lose that game on national television and go 0-3. That’s not going to happen.”

La Greca pointed to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s relationship with pop star Taylor Swift as one of the reasons the league cannot let the Chiefs lose, insinuating the attention the couple receives from her fans and the ratings the games draw could dwindle if the Chiefs continue to struggle.

“They’re getting married later,” La Greca said. “They’re engaged. They’re going to all these nationally televised games. I’m telling you, we’re going to sit here next Sunday night and we’re going to sit there and there’s going to be at least three calls where we’re like, ‘How did that happen?”

La Greca’s comments reflect growing frustration among some fans and media personalities about officiating inconsistencies in high-profile games. The Chiefs have been involved in several controversial calls over the past few seasons, particularly in playoff games, leading to speculation about preferential treatment.

Both teams enter Sunday’s matchup desperate for their first win of the season. The Chiefs have begun the season 0-2 for the first time since 2014, having lost to the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil, in Week 1 and the Eagles in a Week 2 Super Bowl LIX rematch at home. The Giants are coming off a 40-37 overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Sunday’s game at MetLife Stadium kicks off at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.
