Mahomes hoping Worthy can return to lineup soon

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Chiefs got some good news on Wednesday with wide receivers Xavier Worthy and Jalen Royals each practicing. Both missed last week’s game with injuries.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is hopeful Worthy will be back in the starting lineup soon.

“Having him out there is just a threat in general,” Mahomes said. “He can take a pass short or long and he can take it to the house. Having him on the practice field is very encouraging.”

Mahomes is standing by his good friend and favorite target, tight end Travis Kelce, whose dropped touchdown pass against the Eagles turned into a backbreaking interception. In response to those saying Kelce should play less, Mahomes disagreed.

“He wants to be out there. He wants to have a chance to make the plays,” Mahomes said of the 35-year-old tight end. “He’s made the plays for years. I don’t think we ask for too much from him, we ask for him to be out there and be himself, just be who he is. That in itself is enough for us.”

Not only are the Chiefs off to an 0-2 start, but they are fighting 50 years of history. The Chiefs have never beaten the New York Giants as the visiting team.

Still, the Big Apple holds great memories for Mahomes.

“Some of my best memories are of my dad being on the Mets and playing in those National League Championship Series against the Braves,” Mahomes said of his time as a young child when his dad played for the New York Mets. “Then in the World Series against the Yankees. That’s when I first started remembering stuff.”

Chiefs fans hope Mahomes forges some more great memories this Sunday night.
