Washington Commanders' quarterback Jayden Daniels was always going to be fighting against the tide in his attempts to overcome a knee sprain to take his place against the Las Vegas Raiders.
With Marcus Mariota as the backup quarterback and taking media duties on Wednesday, that might be a little hint into the franchise's thinking over their most prized asset.
There is no sense in risking Daniels if he isn't fully healthy, and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has dropped a rather big update on Jayden and his availability for Week 3.
"My feel is based on talking to sources involved in this situation is that the team will err on the side of caution," Rapoport said. "If there is any doubt at all in Jayden Daniels, who is battling a knee sprain, if Jayden Daniels is not 100 percent, do not expect him to play."

Daniels trending toward sitting out vs. Raiders
Given that Mariota was given media duties, that might hint that Jayden won't be suiting up this week, but also, the fact that Rapoport stated that if Daniels isn't 100 percent, then don't expect him to play could be a clear sign that Washington isn't even going to entertain No. 5 playing.
There is no reason to risk him for a Week 3 clash, and given how long the season is, the last thing the Commanders will want is to put Daniels out there and have him injure his knee again.
Mariota is a competent backup and can easily pull out a win over the Raiders, so Dan Quinn and his coaching staff are likely trending towards having Jayden sit.
Is it the right move? We think so.
