'It gives us no excuses': Iraola on first six months at new performance centre

The first team moved in in March and had their first preseason with the upgraded facilities this summer.

The centre includes an indoor dome, outdoor pitches, indoor training facilities and offices, and it has drawn praise from across the club.

[Technical director Simon Francis previously said the centre had made things much easier for the recruitment team when coordinating meetings and having a base.](https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/25454043.francis-enjoying-role-afc-bournemouth/?ref=ed_direct)

And Andoni Iraola told the Daily Echo: "I think this is the best place for us to prepare.

“I wouldn't even say just in preseason, I am very happy training here.

“The thing is for the friendlies and for quality games you have to go somewhere. But anywhere we go and travel to, we aren’t going to be better than training here.

“I think also the weather is very nice in the summer normally. So I'm very happy. I think gives us a good quality of everyday work and I think I'm very grateful to the club and I think the players feel the same.”

The quality of the facilities has also been a point of surprise for new arrivals, Iraola admitted.

The boss added that the performance centre gives him and his squad ‘no excuse’ to not be as prepared as possible each week.

“I think it's nice to work every day here and knowing that okay, this probably doesn't give us points, I don't know if it gives us this, but it gives us the best conditions not to have any excuse,” he said.

“And if you have to recover, you can come here to recover if you are injured. And I think it's a good step for the club.

“When the club makes the improvements in the stadium it will be also a big step for the club and I think big steps and the club is taking off the pitch that I think are good for the future.”

Asked about if there were any specific facilities that the team now had access to that made preparations easier, Iraola said it was something very simple that had made the biggest difference for him.

“For me the most important thing is the quality of the pitch, the grass,” he said.

“Here we have three now four football pitches just for us. So we can go rotating, we can talk to them, to the groundsmen and have everyday quality training.

“Previously we had also two very good pitches but sometimes in the winter they start to get where the ball doesn't go and start to bounce and the quality is not the same.

“Now, I don't think we'll have any excuse in that sense and I think I value a lot this the simple things. But just to have a quality grass, quality pitch every day I think is very important.”
