Instead of an indirect free-kick as punishment, a corner will now be awarded for this offence.
This happened for the first time in a major match, during the Club World Cup, which is taking place in the United States.
Mamelodi Sundowns keeper Ronwen Williams was penalised, with eight minutes left of the game against Ulsan HD. Referee Clement Turpin awarded a corner but Mamelodi held out for a 1-0 victory.
There is also a fresh stipulation in place that only team captains can approach the referee in specific situations to help avoid dissent and "help instil higher levels of fairness and mutual respect, both of which are core values of the game".
