The Steelers received some bad and unexpected injury news late Wednesday, with NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reporting that depth interior offensive lineman Max Scharping suffered a knee injury in practice.
“(T)he fear is that it’s significant,” posted Rapoport.
He added that the team will confirm the severity with an upcoming MRI.
Scharping signed with the Steelers in 2024 and has appeared in two games for the black and gold, logging just seven offensive snaps. He’s played in both guard spots over his NFL career and even saw time at center for Pittsburgh over the preseason.
If Scharping’s injury is confirmed as significant, it’ll likely mean the Steelers put him on injured reserve and search for a replacement.
Pittsburgh currently has two offensive linemen on its practice squad: guard Steven Jones and tackle Dylan Cook.
