Jamie Carragher has made his thoughts perfectly clear on Liverpool's last-gasp winner against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League which continued their chaotic start to the 2025/26 season.

Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk were all on target for Liverpool with a Marcos Llorente brace seeing the clash end 3-2 at Anfield. The Premier League holders were two goals in front after just five minutes but needed a Van Dijk header in stoppage time to claim all three points.

A last-gasp goal from the captain saw Liverpool's 100 per cent winning record maintained, something fans will see as either concerning or the perfect attribute of champions. Dominik Szoboszlai's stunning free-kick against Arsenal in the 83rd minute is the earliest a goal has decided a positive result for Liverpool this season.

Federico Chiesa, Rio Ngumoha, Salah and now Van Dijk have all scored beyond then to help Liverpool secure victories. Unsurprisingly, such a stat has caused quite the reaction with the latest iteration prompting Carragher to provide his thoughts on social media.

Writing to X, he said: "Devil's club." Five laughing emojis accompanied his message.

Considering how Liverpool have been ending games, it is no surprise that such an informal nickname has been handed to Liverpool. While it is great to see the resilience, there should be concerns over how Liverpool keep getting in positions where they need to score late goals.

However, Van Dijk has dismissed those worries when explaining what potentially led to Liverpool very nearly dropping points against Atletico.

"I wouldn't say [the game] ran away from us," he admitted on TNT Sport. "I mentioned it yesterday that they are a team that never gives up. They have quality players that can punish you, if you're not there in a split second.

"We kept pushing to try and make it 3-1 and obviously to concede an equaliser from a massive deflection was not great but we found a way again. We showed that resilience we have been showing for so many years and it was another great European night.

"No, [no concerns about how we started the season defensively]."
