‘We will play our football’ – Defiant Leeds United star hits back at goal and creativity doubts

The Leeds United team are under pressure after drawing blanks in their last three Premier League games. The lack of goals and creativity in the team has led to suggestions that they may not have the firepower to avoid relegation back to the Championship this season.

Lukas Nmecha’s penalty against Everton in their opening game of the season at Elland Road is the only goal Leeds have scored in the Premier League. They have not found the back of the net in the last three fixtures and are yet to score from open play in the ongoing campaign.

The lack of goals and creativity has led to severe scrutiny of the team’s forward line, and sporting director Adam Underwood’s recruitment in the final third has been heavily criticised.

Daniel Farke wanted two more forwards towards the end of the transfer window, but the Leeds manager will now have to find a way to get his team going in the coming days and weeks to ensure the Whites keep their head above the water in the relegation dogfight.

‘Leeds United will keep playing their football’ – Ilia Gruev

Leeds midfielder Ilia Gruev has insisted that his side were unfortunate to lose against Fulham last weekend. However, he pointed out that the Whites have not conceded in two of their opening four league games.

He stressed that no one is expecting the Whites to blow away Wolves at Molineux with goals, and insisted that Leeds will continue to keep their structure and play their football.

Gruev believes Leeds must keep their belief in their way of football, and the goals will eventually come if they remain consistent with their style.

“We want to stay calm”, Gruev told BBC Radio Leeds.

“Out of these games, we didn’t concede in two. Unfortunately, we lost against Fulham in the last minute, and it was a tough one.

“But we want to keep our structure and play our football. No one expects us to go to Wolverhampton and score a lot of goals.

“If it happens, great, and it can happen. But we want to keep our structure, play our football, and the goals will come.”

Illia Gruev is confident Leeds United will start scoring goals.

Leeds fans need to see more from the attack at Wolves

Gruev is right about Leeds sticking to their principles, and they must adhere to the plans they have worked on during training.

However, Leeds fans need to see more invention and creativity from the rest of the team, and particularly from the attack. They cannot look like a team struggling to create chances against Wolves, who have lost their opening four league games.

Farke may have to make a few changes to the team to ensure that they can play more front-foot football against a team struggling for confidence.
