Dan Ndoye was one of the players to arrive at Nottingham Forest in the summer window and they signed him from Bologna for a reported fee of over €40m.
Last week, Bologna sporting director Giovanni Sartori said it was a “great pain” to lose the winger to Nottingham Forest and insisted it was necessary to cash in from his sale.
Napoli showed interest in the winger and wanted to secure his services before the Reds sealed the operation. Former Rangers and Bologna striker Marco Negri has given his view on the reason to choose Nottingham Forest.
Negri discussed the 24-year-old for Kiss Kiss Napoli’s Radio Goal, and Area Napoli have relayed his comments.
On September 2nd, Ndoye’s agent Lodovico Spinosi said Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna tried to sign his client in January and made another attempt in the summer. Napoli’s failures allowed Nottingham Forest to take him in the last window.
The representative insisted the Premier League club entering the race changed everything for Antonio Conte’s side, who missed out on the Switzerland international. Negri now says there were two key factors that helped Nottingham Forest acquire his signature.
“Ndoye to Nottingham? His salary and playing in the Premier League weighed heavily,” he said.
A move to Napoli would have seen Ndoye enjoy Champions League football under Conte’s orders, but he picked Nottingham Forest. Negri is of the belief the Italian club would have been more beneficial for his development.
“Serie A is no longer what it was in the 2000s; Bologna pushed to cash in as much as possible to reinvest the money. Ndoye had a great opportunity to play in the Champions League with Napoli and work with a coach like Conte, with whom he would have grown,” Negi explained.
The Swiss attacker has a goal and an assist from four games for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
