'It's really getting to them': Jamie Carragher says something Liverpool are doing is winding up …

Jamie Carragher has name-dropped the Everton fans on the back of Liverpool’s Champions League victory against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday evening.

The Merseyside Derby is now just a matter of hours away, with Everton having enjoyed a full week of preparation for their trip to Anfield.

David Moyes will be pleased with the start to the season which his side have made, but they will be up against it on Saturday.

The Toffees do have the most in-form player around the league, though, after Jack Grealish was awarded the Player of the Month trophy for August.

Everton have surprised a number of pundits already this season as they currently sit in sixth position following the opening four games.

However, Carragher has now suggested that there is something that must have Everton fans feeling nervous ahead of Saturday.

Jamie Carragher expects Liverpool to have Everton fans worried

Ahead of the game, Liverpool manager Arne Slot sent a message to Moyes over Alexander Isak’s availability to play.

The Sweden international is now expected to make his Liverpool league debut against the Toffees having picked up some minutes against Atletico Madrid.

Speaking on CBS Sports, Carragher suggested that Liverpool’s regular late winners must be having an effect on the likes of Everton fans.

“Liverpool have been getting so many late winners, and you can imagine what that does to Man United, Man City, Arsenal and Everton fans,” said Carragher.

“The nickname was the devil’s club by opposition fans. So, it’s really getting to them at the moment.

Everton fans have already criticised Carragher in recent days, following news of his inclusion in a Hill Dickinson Stadium mosaic.

And these comments are unlikely to win him any fans from the blue half of Merseyside ahead of the derby on Saturday.

Everton’s defensive record should offer fans confidence

There is no hiding from Liverpool’s attacking threats, but Everton have already shown they have one of the league’s strongest defensive units.

Despite the injuries being suffered at the club, Moyes has only seen his side concede three goals this season.

Jarrad Branthwaite is unlikely to return from injury to face Liverpool at the weekend, but Michael Keane’s recent performances will offer fans confidence.

With an injury to Vitaliy Mykolenko, James Garner has earned a lot of praise after stepping in at left-back over recent weeks.

Facing the reigning Champions, and current league leaders, Everton are always going to be up against it, but there have been plenty of positive signs in the early stages of this season.
