Bournemouth exit turns into disaster – Season over after injury nightmare

Neto’s first season at Botafogo has come to an abrupt end. The former Bournemouth goalkeeper suffered a serious thigh injury during Sunday’s match against São Paulo and will be sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.

As reported by Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, Botafogo confirmed in an official statement that Neto sustained a complete rupture of the rectus femoris in his right leg. He will undergo surgery in the coming days, with recovery expected to take between 12 and 20 weeks.“We wish strength and a good recovery to the athlete,” the club added.

The injury occurred late in the first half, when Neto collapsed in pain immediately after kicking the ball. He received treatment on the pitch but was unable to continue and was replaced by Léo Linck just before the interval.

Neto had only joined Botafogo in August, brought in after John’s transfer to Nottingham Forest. Now, just weeks into his new chapter, the 36-year-old faces a lengthy spell out, while his substitute takes over the starting role.
