Manager reveals bet with player before big Manchester City transfer – Would have lost it 100%

Omar Marmoush arrived at Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January and had an impressive start at the Etihad, managing eight goals and three assists from 25 games in the second half of last season.

In the summer window, the Bundesliga club sold Hugo Ekitiké to Liverpool for a big fee.

Wednesday’s edition of Bild explains the German club got €80m from Manchester City for Marmoush, who had joined them on a free transfer in the summer of 2023. They paid €20m for Ekitiké and sold him to the Reds for €90m.

The newspaper state Eintracht Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmöller is currently the ‘best multi-million-euro developer’, with the aforementioned two sales as the ‘most prominent’ deals.

Toppmöller has had a chat with Bild and during the course of the interview, he spoke about about the bet he made with the current Manchester City player. The 26-year-old finished his debut season with the German club with 17 goals and six assists.

In the summer of 2024, Toppmöller made a bet with the Egypt international that he would be the top scorer in the league last season and is confident he’d have lost if not for Marmoush’s big move to Manchester City.

“I told him he’d be the top scorer next season and was easily capable of scoring over 20 goals. Considering his performance up until his transfer in the winter [15 goals, 10 assists in 17 league games], he would have 100 percent achieved it,” he said.

It’s to be noted Marmoush managed 20 goals and 14 assists from 26 games for Eintracht Frankfurt last season.
