Pedro Porro has quietly established himself as one of the standout full-backs in the Premier League this season, with underlying numbers placing the Tottenham man at the very top of key statistical categories across the division.

Tottenham Hotspur’s domestic form this season compared with last season is night and day under new manager Thomas Frank.

The Dane already has Tottenham up 14 places compared with last season, with Spurs sitting third after four matchweeks, which marks a clear improvement on their 17th-place finish in the Premier League last term.

It is a remarkable spread of numbers which underlines Porro’s influence on both ends of the pitch, showing that his contribution is not just about energy and attacking intent, but also about winning key battles and controlling transitions.

Thomas Frank trusts Porro in multiple roles

Of course, while Pedro Porro is not exactly perfect, as he can often struggle when up against tricky wingers, it is clear why Thomas Frank continues to turn to him week after week.

So far this season, a handful of players have played every single minute for Tottenham, including Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario, Mohammed Kudus and Djed Spence.

Porro is also on that list, with the full-back featuring in every game in all competitions. Frank has used him in a variety of roles, sometimes as a wing-back in a back five, sometimes as an overlapping full-back, and at other times in a more conservative position.

He is very much a Swiss knife for the Dane, offering versatility and reliability in equal measure.
