Argentina get comparing Martinez’s wages at Aston Villa following Donnarumma reveal

Comparing yourself to others is often a path to misery but in Argentina, they’re doing for Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez anyway.

[El Intransigente](https://elintransigente.com/2025/09/el-sueldo-de-dibu-martinez-en-aston-villa-comparado-con-los-15-millones-que-gana-donnarumma-en-manchester-city/) are busy at it today, comparing the Aston Villa goalkeeper’s salary to Gianluigi Donnarumma and others in the Premier League.

The Italian has raised eyebrows this week after it was revealed he’s earning €15m a year at Manchester City after joining them on deadline day of the summer transfer window.

That makes him the highest paid goalkeeper in the Premier League, far exceeding several of his colleagues. Martinez is among then, earning ‘much lower’ amounts at Aston Villa.

According to El Intransigente, the ‘two-time world champion’ in his position and winner of The Best in two of the last three years, earns around €9m per year at Villa Park. That’s a figure that still puts him among the best paid in the Premier League, but far from ‘Donnarumma’s fortune.’

Indeed, there is a difference of €6m between the two. Something they’re clearly not happy about in Argentina as they point out Martinez’s successes throughout.

It’s not all bad, though, as he still shares the podium as one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League, on par with Alisson at Liverpool. He also earns €9m per year.

David Raya earns €6m at Arsenal, while Robert Sanchez earns €3.6m at Chelsea. Guglielmo Vicario is on €4.5m at Tottenham. So, it’s not all bad for the Aston Villa star, although clear El Intransigente believe a new deal should be offered given what Donnarumma has secured for himself.
