It was another night to remember for Liverpool in the Champions League at Anfield. Virgil van Dijk’s stoppage-time header gave the Reds a 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid as the team’s knack for finding late winners continued.
Liverpool were 2-0 up after just six minutes but were pegged back to 2-2 with just nine minutes of the match remaining. Van Dijk then stepped up from a corner to send Anfield crazy again.
Eyes now turn to the Merseyside derby. Arne Slot’s men will go into the game against Everton on Saturday (12.30pm kick-off) hoping to maintain their 100 percent record this season.
While eyes are on on the field matters, there is still things around the transfer window for Liverpool to keep an eye on. With that in mind, here’s a look at a couple of the latest stories.
Harvey Elliott impact
Former Liverpool man Harvey Elliott scored Aston Villa’s first goal of the season on Tuesday night. The midfielder joined Villa on a season-long move, which will become permanent next summer.
Elliott was on the scoresheet in the 1-1 draw with Brentford in the Carabao Cup, but Villa eventually lost on penalties.
After the game, Unai Emery said: “Harvey Elliott showed his qualities to us and he scored one goal.
“I think we’re getting better. There’s still work to do and we’re going to practice, preparing the game on Sunday.
“We have to work hard like we were doing, with the new structure and new players we have who joined us two weeks ago.
“We have to improve and we have to keep the same progression we were doing and showing today.”
Morgan Rogers decision explained
Staying with the Villa game, Unai Emery has explained why reported Liverpool target Morgan Rogers didn’t step up to the spot in the penalty shootout. "With us, we don't have any analysis of him taking a penalty," said Emery about Rogers. "I don't know if he is good or not (at taking them)."
Liverpool have been credited with an interest in Rogers, while they will be doing their research on him, it seems that his quality from the penalty spot is not something that is able to be judged.
