Bernardo Silva says £62m Man City player is better than most in the Premier League even when…

Bernardo Silva thinks that Manchester City currently have a player who is better than most in the Premier League, even when he is playing at his worst.

Pep Guardiola’s squad is littered with stars, which was evident again last weekend as Erling Haaland stole the show against Manchester United, as the striker netted a brace.

Jeremy Doku and Gianluigi Donnarumma also impressed in the derby, but fans of the Manchester club were eager to see how another of their main stars performed against Ruben Amorim’s men.

Speaking about this individual, Silva has admitted that he is better than most of the Premier League, even at his worst level, and that the Man City squad are happy to have him as part of their group.

Bernardo Silva is glad Man City have Rodri back

Last season was a disaster for Rodri after the Man City star suffered a serious ACL injury at the start of the campaign, which kept him out of action for the majority of the season.

The Spaniard has been returning to action slowly and has started the last two games for Man City, which is a good sign that the 29-year-old is getting closer to being able to play 90 minutes regularly.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner is not at his best just yet; however, even at his worst level, Silva thinks Rodri is better than most players in the Premier League.

“Rodri at a bad level is better than some players on a very good level, so we’re happy to have him back,” Silva said about the midfielder to Stadium Astro.

Rodri is often regarded as the best midfielder in the Premier League, so it is not a surprise to hear Silva say this about his teammate.

The Spaniard is a crucial part of the Man City project, which is the reason why they are keen to tie the 29-year-old down to a new contract.

The latest on Rodri’s new contract

Fabrizio Romano reported at the start of August that Man City are ready to offer Rodri a new contract until 2029 as his current deal is set to expire in 2027.

Reports out of Spain followed this by stating that Rodri is in no rush to sign a new deal with the Manchester club, and is happy to wait to see how things play out over the coming months as City look to climb back to the top of the Premier League.

Real Madrid is a potential destination for the midfielder to move to next, as the La Liga giants have had an interest in the Spain international for some time, and would be keen to acquire him for free in 2027.

It is clear that Rodri has not decided on his future yet, and the next few months will be crucial when it comes to the £62m player staying at the Etihad Stadium.
