'I say it is’: Nottingham Forest legend delivers Evangelos Marinakis verdict after Nuno sacking

The decision to sack Nuno Espirito Santo and replace him with Ange Postecoglou was taken over the international break, and former Nottingham Forest player Des Walker has now made a claim about Evangelos Marinakis.

While the decision to get rid of Nuno Espirito Santo split the football world, to Forest fans, it was not a shock.

Nuno had been walking a tightrope after making public criticisms of the club’s transfer business, and then later saying his relationship with Evangelos Marinakis was fractured.

Before Nottingham Forest slumped to a 3-0 defeat against West Ham, signs pointed to a rekindling between the Portuguese manager and the Greek owner.

However, nothing would arise from that, and Nuno was dismissed from his role.

Former Nottingham Forest defender Des Walker has now chimed in on the decision, and has spoken about how he feels about Evangelos Marinakis following the dismissal of Nuno.

Des Walker says Evangelos Marinakis was ‘brave’ to sack Nuno Espirito Santo

Des Walker has appeared on The Overlap podcast, and was asked about the events surrounding Nottingham Forest in the last couple of weeks

Over the international break, Evangelos Marinakis made the decision to sack Nuno Espirito Santo, and replace him with Ange Postecoglou, and Walker has delivered his verdict on the decision.

The former Forest man said, “[Evangelos Marinakis has] backed the team, and they stabilised last year and obviously Nuno’s done a fantastic job last year. Whether he could keep that this year remains to be seen.

“To sack him is brave. I say it is brave because Forest fans have got the smell of success in their mind and once you got that smell of success, then once it doesn’t happen, they can get very very critical. That’s any fan,” he continued to say.

The words from Walker could be seen as a warning to Ange Postecoglou. The Garibaldi faithful are expecting success from this season’s campaign, and the Australian was brought in to provide just that.

The route to silverware is no easy task, but after Wednesday night, the road has become much harder, with Forest already eliminated from one domestic cup.

One route to success is already gone for Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest threw away a good chance at silverware this season by collapsing from a 2-0 lead against Swansea City.

Ange Postecoglou seemed furious, judging from what was heard saying from the dressing room.

The Tricky Trees seemed to be in cruise control at 2-0, and that perhaps is a reason they let the lead slip away.

Postecoglou admitted he felt his team got complacent, and now that leaves the Australian with one less route to success this season.

Fans will no doubt give Ange Postecoglou time, as he has only been in charge for two games. However, the 60-year-old may need to deliver results sooner rather than later.
