Belief club will regret not selling to Brentford – Player not living up to €30m offered

PSV Eindhoven may be regretting their decision to turn down a €30m bid from Brentford for midfielder Joey Veerman.

That’s according to analyst René van der Gijp, [via Soccer News](https://www.soccernews.nl/news/transferknock-out-voor-psv-30-miljoen-weggegooid/), who believes recent performances from the Dutchman will have the Eredivisie side regretting their choice.

Brentford moved for Veerman at the end of the window and were willing to pay €30m for the midfielder but those in charge in Eindhoven refused to cooperate late in the window.

That was despite Veerman reportedly being keen on the move and making that clear when Brentford came calling.

Veerman has instead ended up staying in Eindhoven for the time being, with it unclear if Brentford will potentially return in the January transfer window.

That means he was a starting player as the Dutch side kicked off their Champions League campaign this week with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Union Saint-Gilloise.

Plenty of criticism has come out of that game and Veerman was the man in Van der Gijp’s eyeline, with him believing they’ll regret turning down Brentford’s offer at this point.

“Yes, of course I watched. No, it wasn’t good,” he said about the game.

“And you know what: I think they’re regretting not letting Veerman go for thirty million. Damn it, man.”

Fellow analyst Wilfred Genee agreed “he was just hobbling along, but he wasn’t really playing,” while Johan Derksen is similarly unimpressed with the midfielder.

“He can play well in the Dutch league, but when it really matters, he’s never there,” he added.
