'Slowly': Manchester City player says he's starting to get better and better again

A key player within Pep Guardiola’s squad at Manchester City has just revealed that he is getting closer to his best level.

The start of the 2025/26 season has been mixed for City as the Premier League giants have lost two of their opening four games in the English top flight, and their vulnerabilities are clear for everyone to see.

Erling Haaland stole the show last time out against Man United and is only one of a few players in Guardiola’s squad who looks like he is at his best level.

Another key figure at Manchester City has just admitted that he is getting closer to returning to his best, which will be a huge boost to the English club once that happens.

Rodri says he is pushing to find his form

Rodri is one of the best players in the Premier League, with Darren Bent recently describing the Man City star as “incredible” after what he achieved during the 2023/24 campaign.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner has been stepping up his recovery after suffering a serious ACL injury last season, and having started the last two matches for City, the midfielder has revealed that he is trying to find his form and knows that getting back to his best will be a long process.

“Well, it’s clear I’m only just starting. I’ve played two games in their entirety, so I’m going slowly,” Rodri told Telemundo Deportes.

“I know it’s a long process, and the only thing that matters to me is that the team keeps adding three points at a time and I keep finding my form.”

Bernardo Silva has admitted that he is delighted that Rodri is back in action for Man City and that even at his worst level, the 29-year-old is better than most players.

The midfielder will likely return to his best level this side of Christmas, and once the Spaniard gets there, Guardiola’s team will go up a level.

Rodri thinks his injury will benefit him in the future

Although an ACL injury is one of the worst for a football player, Rodri thinks the setback will help him extend his career as the midfielder has given his body a rest for several months.

Virgil van Dijk has shown that it is possible to get back to the top of the game after ACL surgery, and that is the path Rodri hopes to follow, having just turned 29 in June.

With a contract expiring in 2027, it remains to be seen how long the Spaniard remains at the Etihad Stadium, as Real Madrid continues to monitor his situation in Manchester.

The midfielder will likely take some time before deciding on his future, and staying at Man City is a strong possibility after they stood by him through his recent setback.
