The Champions League returns and what better way for Manchester City to get their campaign off to as they welcome Napoli to the Etihad Stadium. Of course, this means Kevin de Bruyne will be making a quick return to Manchester following his free transfer to the Italian side over the summer, and no doubt, like all those who have left and returned, he will come back to haunt us.
Napoli also have a number of ex-United stars in their side who saw the light and left Old Trafford while they still had a career to salvage.
The Italian Blues go into Thursday’s match on the back of three straight wins, while City are still beaming after beating United 3-0 at the weekend, painting Manchester as Blue once again. Will King Kev become a thorn in our side? Even if he does, he is sure to get a very warm welcome from the Faithful who will all be eager to see their former hero gracing the Etihad pitch once more.
As always, our team are here to give us their views on the match. Here’s what we think this week.
What a tricky match for the blues. KDB’s return, what will the team look like, so many questions for City and Pep to answer. Think City get this done ever so narrowly. 2-1.
The return of KDB is overshadowing the fact that Napoli might well be a better team than City at the moment, so it’ll be a nervy game from the get-go.
I expect City once again to try and play a bit more direct, as they did against United. Napoli will probably score, but I think City could edge a win over the line.
KDB returns. All the feels. City are a big unknown coming into this competition. Will the addition of Donnarumma make up for past deficiencies? Who knows, but it’s a home match and I back City to get off to a good start in the UCL.
City repainted Manchester as Blue at the weekend as they cruised to victory over United, but Napoli will be very different. For a start, they have a decent manager with some decent players. I’m expecting a tough, close match where Napoli will likely score. Hopefully the Blues will get at least one more than them. I’m going to regret going against the other guys, which is probably why I haven’t had a spot on prediction since Adam was a lad.
We taught them a lesson, that’s what happened. The Blues won 3-0 and it was celebration time for Will as he got this season’s first perfect score. Saul went for 3-1, Thomas went a bit crazy and opted for another 5-1 while Pete initially went for 4-1, then changed his mind and plumped for 4-2. Crazy mistake. Always stick to your first instinct.
That perfect score means Will goes top of the table. Can he stay there all season? Can Thomas make it back? Will Pete ever get a score right?
