As football fans, we’ve all taken a little pleasure in a player we don’t like for any reason not succeeding. For Celta Vigo fans, that is currently Wolverhampton Wanderers player Fer López.
That’s at least if [the latest from Estadio Deportivo](https://www.estadiodeportivo.com/futbol/celta/sin-respuesta-fer-lopez-aficion-del-celta-20250918-512597.html) is anything to go by, as they cover his slow start to life at Wolves and hide their delight rather thinly in the process.
They explain that López’s move to Wolves this summer remains a bone of contention at the Spanish club, despite it being ‘extremely advantageous’ for them.
Celta fans didn’t like the fact that the club had let a youth product go once again and they certainly didn’t like that his agent Jorge Mendes, took advantage of the small print in his contract to make the move happen.
They initially wanted to use a €20m release clause, rather than a €40m one, as he was registered with the reserve team. Eventually, a deal was done at €25m that allowed Wolves to pay in instalments instead.
López came in for plenty of criticism on social media, with Celta later issuing a statement in defence of the midfielder. But while they’ve been able to respond, López hasn’t, at least on the pitch.
Estadio say his time in England hasn’t started as he had hoped, with three substitute appearances in four game and just 58 minutes in total in a team that has lost all their games in the Premier League. He did start the EFL Cup win over West Ham, though.
Even an inclusion in the Spain U21 team has been treated as odd. That’s been seen as a reward for his performances last season rather than this year. He hadn’t worn the Spain jersey in any category before his appearance in the win over Kosovo.
His struggles are clearly something Celta fans at least are pleased to see, and perhaps even Estadio, with the circumstances of his departure still leaving plenty unhappy.
