Manchester City head into their Champions League campaign on a high following their impressive victory over Manchester United in Sunday's derby. Pep Guardiola's squad begin their quest for European glory against Kevin De Bruyne's Napoli at the Etihad on Thursday evening.
They are aiming to rectify the shortcomings of last season's European journey, when they barely made it through the revamped league phase before succumbing to Real Madrid 6-3 on aggregate in the play-off round. It was the second consecutive season they were ousted by the 15-time European champions.
The teams are set to clash again in this season's tournament, with City scheduled to play in the Spanish capital on 10 December. City's league phase will also see them face Monaco (away), Villarreal (away), Borussia Dortmund (home), Leverkusen (home) and Bodo/Glimt (away).
The top eight clubs will advance directly to the round of 16, while those finishing ninth to 24th will compete in the play-off round, a stage City are keen to avoid.
