**Manchester City pair John Stones and Kalvin Phillips were both pictured back in training with the first team on Wednesday.**
Stones has not played since withdrawing from England duty earlier this month due to a muscular injury.
Three Lions head coach Thomas Tuchel played down the seriousness of the problem at the time, but Stones was still unavailable for the Manchester derby last weekend.
However, it looks like the 31-year-old will be in contention for City’s games going forward, with Pep Guardiola’s side playing six matches between now and the next international break.
Phillips has been sidelined for quite some time
-----------------------------------------------
The midfielder did not take any part in pre-season, with Guardiola having confirmed back in May that Phillips needed to see a specialist about an Achilles problem.
As a consequence, the former Leeds player did not make the matchday squad for the opening four league fixtures against Wolves, Tottenham, Brighton and Manchester United.
Phillips will also be absent for the first Champions League fixture versus Napoli on Thursday evening as he is ineligible after not being included in the 25-man squad. He will, though, be ready to face Arsenal this weekend if Guardiola chooses to select him.
Man City’s injury list is shortening
------------------------------------
City were facing an injury crisis not so long ago, with the number of absentees reaching double figures, but the return of Stones and Phillips means that there are only 5 players currently unavailable.
Among those, Mateo Kovacic (Achilles) is expected to return soon, while the likes of Marcus Bettinelli (knock), Omar Marmoush (knee), Rayan Ait-Nouri (ankle) and Rayan Cherki (thigh) could still be weeks away from returning to action.
