3 tackles/game: Arsenal make approach for £35m French star

Arsenal signed a couple of midfielders during the summer transfer window.

The Gunners reinforced the department with the signings of Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi, but they could pursue another solution in the future.

Vamos Mi Sevilla FC claim that Arsenal have taken notice of the performances of Lucien Agoume since his breakout season at Sevilla last term.

The Gunners have collected positive reports on the talented midfielder and made an approach via intermediaries earlier in the summer.

Arsenal could reportedly step up with a bid in future transfer windows. Borussia Dortmund are likewise monitoring the Frenchman’s progress.

Sevilla acquired 90 percent of the player’s rights after paying £3.5 million to Inter Milan back in July. He is expected to be one of their ‘next big sales’.

Agoume has a release clause worth £35 million in his contract.

Agoume would be a bargain signing

The 23-year-old has made huge strides with Sevilla over the past 12 months. He made 37 appearances across all competitions for the Andalusian outfit last term.

The France Under-21 international has continued his bright form in the current campaign. He has made almost five recoveries and three tackles per league outing.

The talented ace has also won five duels per game alongside two clearances and two interceptions. He has been dubbed by some as the ‘next N’Golo Kante‘ due to his tireless work rate.

The Gunners had a look at the midfielder during the summer, but ended up landing Norgaard as Zubimendi’s deputy after intervention from sporting director Andrea Berta.

Norgaard is almost 32 years of age and could be viewed as a short-term signing. Hence, it won’t be a surprise if Arsenal push to land Agoume in either January or next summer.

The club are determined to have sufficient depth in every department. The signing of Piero Hincapie is a fine example. The hierarchy would not have made such an acquisition in the past.

Riccardo Calafiori and Cristhian Mosquera can deputise for Gabriel Magalhaes if required, but the board went ahead to sign another left-footed centre-back after Jakub Kiwior’s exit.

Agoume would be another top-class addition to the Gunners squad. With Sevilla’s ongoing financial troubles, Arsenal could seek to sign him for much less than his buy-out clause.
