Liverpool and Real Madrid cooling interest allowed club to snatch player for bargain deal

Liverpool were among the clubs to have looked at Edon Zhegrova before he left Lille for Juventus on deadline day of the summer window.

That’s at least what Tuttosport are reporting, and they state Liverpool had courted the winger.

The Kosovo international made his debut for the Old Lady when he came off the bench in their 4-4 Champions League draw against Borussia Dortmund earlier this week.

Tuttosport’s report is about Juve being pleased to have managed to secure the attacker’s services considering that Liverpool and others showed interest.

The Reds didn’t make advances and cooled their interest mainly because of the 26-year-old’s long-term injury. In December, he picked up a groin injury that forced to him spend over 250 days on the sidelines.

While Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich didn’t proceed, the report says Juventus believed in Zhegrova and snatched him for a bargain price. The Serie A club agreed to pay €14.3m plus €3m bonuses to Lille.

Zhegrova prefers to operate on the right wing, a position Mohamed Salah has cemented at Liverpool, so they won’t be too disappointed.
