Andre Onana has to deal with less pressure at Trabzonspor than at Manchester United, with many suggesting it was the right move for the goalkeeper.
Before Andre Onana signed for Manchester United in 2023, the Cameroon international was considered among the best goalkeepers in the world.
Onana established himself at Ajax before joining Inter Milan and playing in a Champions League final, albeit having lost against Pep Guardiola’s Man City.
Erik ten Hag decided to replace David de Gea with Onana, but his form dipped and appeared to be crippled by the pressure that came with being the first-choice goalkeeper at United.
Amorim overlooked Onana at the beginning of the season and he eventually joined Trabzonspor. Altay Bayindir has started every Premier League match this season, while Senne Lammens joined from Royal Antwerp on deadline day.
Meanwhile, Onana has been playing regular football in Turkey.

Geremi backs Andre Onana’s decision to leave Man Utd
In Onana’s first two seasons at United, he conceded 150 goals and kept 24 clean sheets from 102 matches.
Cameroon legend Geremi, who played for Real Madrid, Chelsea and Newcastle, believes Onana was right to move away from Old Trafford.

Onana’s loan deal at Trabzonspor expires at the end of the season. He will then return to United, but his future is likely to be elsewhere as Ineos will hope they can cash in on him.
“I think he made the right decision [to leave the club],” Geremi said, as quoted by Le Bled Parle. “It’s a good thing for him because he needed to go somewhere where he could play a lot, without too much pressure.
“He needs the confidence that comes with playing regularly, and at his age, he needs to play.”
Although it didn’t quite go to plan at United, Onana still wishes the best for the Red Devils.
Geremi also defended Onana based on United’s mixed results.
“He was heavily criticised when Manchester United were struggling, but honestly, when you look at the team, he wasn’t the only player who wasn’t impressive,” he added.
“Even now, they’re struggling this season without him. I saw them play against Manchester City, and they were still mediocre.”
Onana’s assist against Gaziantep
The United loanee recorded an assist playing for Trabzonspor on Saturday.
Onana left his penalty area with the ball and took matters into his own hands, eventually sending a long ball forward to Paul Onuachu, who got in behind Gaziantep’s defence.
Onuachu held off competition from the opposition’s defence before slotting the ball beyond the goalkeeper as Trabzonspor came back from behind to snatch a point.
