“I know how much it hurts” – Brighton player keen to help Manchester United compatriot

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Diego Gómez is pleased Diego León joined Manchester United in the summer window.

Earlier this week, the 22-year-old midfielder starred for Brighton in their 6-0 crushing win over Barnsley by scoring four goals. The Paraguay international told Versus Radio that Fabian Hürzeler has to be credited for his success with the Seagulls.

Versus Radio have published another part of their interview with Gómez where he talked about the Manchester United player.

The 18-year-old came through the ranks of Cerro Porteño’s academy, and his rise saw him make it to their first team in 2024.

The left-back’s performances for the Paraguayan club didn’t go unnoticed. Manchester United completed his signing this summer, after he turned 18 years of age in April.

A transfer to Old Trafford meant the fullback left his country for the first time in his career. The Brighton player is thrilled with León securing a big move to Manchester United and says he’s doing his best to try and help his compatriot settle.

“I always try to talk to him, because no one else has achieved what he has. Imagine coming here at the age of 18, outside your country, miles away from Paraguay,” he said.

“I always try to support him because I know how much it hurts to be away from your family and your country. When you come here, it’s strange. You feel a different culture. I always try to talk to him.

“Hopefully, we can have a lunch like this so we can meet up with him and help him with whatever he needs.”

León is yet to make his senior debut for Ruben Amorim’s side.
