Manchester United face Sunderland at Old Trafford in their next Premier League outing

Manchester United return to Old Trafford for their next Premier League outing as they look to hit back from their 3-1 defeat at Brentford.

The Red Devils struggle for a consistent run of wins under Ruben Amorim continued against the Bees, as they became just the second side to lose to Keith Andrews’ men in the Premier League this term.

It has been less than 12 months since the former Sporting CP man left Portugal to join United but it has been a tough start to life since joining the Red Devils. Amorim did get the club to the Europa League final last season but they were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur and are playing no European football this season.

Man Utd to face a resurgent Sunderland outfit

Sunderland were promoted to the Premier League with dramatic Championship play-off final win over Sheffield United at Wembley. However, they have taken their opportunity since returning to the big time with a busy summer of transfers and they have 11 points from their six games and sit four points above United.

They won 1-0 at Nottingham Forest on Saturday night and manager Regis Le Bris hailed one particular player - with the comments sounded a warning to United for who they need to watch out for next weekend.

Le Bris said: “Of course, you need a bit of luck sometimes because they weren’t clinical, but when it comes our way, we have to take it.

“We need a captain like Granit because he gives us so much. He can control the rhythm, and he understands the game like a future coach - the game model and how to manage it in real time.”

Xhaka has experience of playing against United with Arsenal but has proven a big signing for the Black Cats after joining in the summer.

Matheus Cunha targets improvement after Brentford loss

Reflecting on Saturday’s loss to Brentford, summer signing Matheus Cunha admitted his side didn’t do enough to win the game.

“It’s very frustrating to come here and not win,” he said. “Every game in the Premier League is, of course, important, but we need to do more. We need to do more – that’s the key, I think.”

United have a full week to prepare for their clash with Sunderland. The clash is the final game before the international break and Cunha is keen to get to work in training.

“Of course, we need to go there [Carrington] and to do everything we can,” Cunha added.

“Improve, improve, improve – this is the word, I think. We need to use it, we need to be focused and to have big character right now.

“It’s like I say, how important it is to fight for the shirt and winning the games.”
