Recently sacked manager emerges as an option to replace Ruben Amorim at Manchester United

Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim is struggling. He has cut a forlorn figure on the touchline for a few weeks now, and it does not help that the players are not repaying his faith in them. The Portuguese tactician had a resigned look when Brentford beat his side 3–1 last weekend.

Amorim, appointed midway through last season, was given a free pass for the remainder of it. However, since the start of the current campaign, pressure has mounted on the former Sporting CP coach who did such an excellent job in Portugal.

Talk of a sacking has been doing the rounds in recent days. Although it does not feel like the Man Utd board will pull the plug just yet, it is safe to say that Amorim is on borrowed time. Replacements are already being lined up, should the difficult decision to part ways be made.

Potter back to management soon?

🚨 Rúben Amorim on his future and chances of getting sacked: “I'm not concerned because it is not my decision”.

Now, as per Fichajes, recently sacked manager Graham Potter, removed from his position as West Ham United manager last weekend, has been linked with the Man Utd job. The once highly touted English coach could find himself in the hot seat at Old Trafford.

Potter’s managerial career has seen a rapid fall from grace. He had everything going for him during his time at Brighton & Hove Albion, which prompted Chelsea to appoint him. However, his time at Stamford Bridge was nothing short of disastrous, and he still has not recovered from that.

West Ham took a punt on him last season, but the Englishman failed to turn the situation around at the London Stadium. They have now replaced him with Nuno Espírito Santo, who did an excellent job at Nottingham Forest but was sacked after a falling out with the owner.

The managerial merry-go-round

This managerial merry-go-round could see Amorim as the next victim and Potter the beneficiary. That said, although the English tactician is available, there are many questions over whether he has what it takes to turn the situation around at Old Trafford. All this, only if Amorim is let go.

Right now, it looks like the Portuguese coach will be given a slightly longer rope. Let us hope he can cling to it and make his way to the shore safely.
