Former Barcelona boss Xavi has indicated he is keen to replace Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, according to reports. Amorim is once again under intense pressure following another Premier League defeat.

Saturday's 3-1 loss at Brentford was the Portuguese's 17th defeat out of 33 games since his appointment in the league. After six games this term, the Reds are 14th in the table.

The Manchester Evening News understands that Amorim continues to retain the backing of the United board, with club sources saying no replacements are being lined up.

However, several coaches have been namechecked since the defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium. Gareth Southgate, Andoni Iraola, Oliver Glasner and Fabian Hurzeler have all been mentioned as being on United's radar.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Xavi would jump at the opportunity to take over at Old Trafford. The journalist explained that the Spaniard has been "studying" the Premier League and would "immediately" take the job if it was offered.

It's also said that the lack of European football hasn't put Xavi off. The former midfielder has been out of work since leaving Barcelona, where he won the La Liga title.

Despite the claim from Romano, other reports via The Sun have claimed that Xavi is not believed to have any interest from inside United yet.

Despite the noise around his future, Amorim reiterated his focus is on getting the best out of his team and turning things around. "I am never concerned about my job - I am not that kind of guy," he said after Brentford.

"It is not my decision. I will do the best I can every minute I am here." He added: "We need to work on a lot of things. And again today, my biggest concern is we didn't settle down the game in the final third.

"We missed a lot of crosses. We suffered goals in transition that we knew during the week and work on that. So that is the things that we need to improve."
