Celtic are preparing for their second outing in the Europa League later this week.

But Brendan Rodgers' men are also playing a major role in Real Madrid's preparations for Champions League action.

Xabi Alonso and his men face the Hoops' conquerors Kairat tonight in Kazakhstan - the reward for the top table minnows causing a big upset and sending the Scottish champions out on penalties in the play-off round of qualifying.

La Liga big hitters Real head into the showdown off the back of a bruising derby defeat to rivals Atletico Madrid at the weekend, and while boss Alonso admitted he didn't know much about tonight's opponents - he is now fully clued up, partly in turn to Celtic.

Speaking via the Real Madrid official website, he explained: “We've watched their games against Celtic and the one the other day against Sporting de Portugal.

"They have a strong core and some different options in attack. They're a direct outfit, they play some slick stuff and are clear in what they want to do. We'll have to compete well."

“We've analysed the opposition both collectively and individually. I didn't know much about them before, but I am familiar with them now.

"They are in the Champions League and they deserve to be there.

"The result the other day was a bit unusual and tomorrow they're playing at home, with all the emotion that brings, so we have to be prepared."

Meanwhile, Matt O'Riley was put on the spot as he was asked to compare the famous Celtic European under the lights atmosphere to that of his current employers Marseille.

Over the years, some of the biggest names in the game have raved about running out into the wall of noise in Glasgow's east end.

O'Riley experienced it as a player first hand during his time at the club and his now making a big impression at Marseille.

Speaking about the atmosphere at the Stade Velodrome, he told Foot Mercato: "The fans really make the difference, we saw it with PSG, the way we started the match. It helps us to move forward, as if it was an extra player."

That brought the big question about comparing it to Celtic, which he replied: "I need more time here to answer this question, but they are two great, passionate clubs.
