Man United last played against Sunderland in April 2017 before the Black Cats were relegated from the Premier League.

They are looking ahead to a game against Sunderland this weekend, who have impressed upon their return to the Premier League. The Black Cats are currently fifth in the league table, four points ahead of Man United, and just four points off Liverpool, at the top of the table.

It should be a tough game for United, and could potentially be the nail in the coffin for Amorim should the Red Devils lose the game at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. The last time that Sunderland faced United was in April 2017, when United won 3-0 before Sunderland’s relegation. But where is that Man United XI now?

Luke Shaw the only player to remain at Man United

GK - Sergio Romero, Boca Juniors: Romero was more of a back-up keeper for Man United, and after playing in just seven Premier League games, he moved to Italian side Venezia in 2021. He joined Argentinian club Boca Juniors in 2022 and has been there ever since.

LB - Luke Shaw, Man United: Shaw is the only player in Jose Mourinho’s XI that is still at Man United. He has struggled with injuries over the past eight years.

CB - Marcos Rojo, Racing Club: Rojo was a solid enough defender for United until he left in 2021 on a free transfer. He joined Boca Juniors, where he spent four years, before moving to fellow Argentinian side Racing Club in the summer, aged 35.

CB - Eric Bailly, Real Oviedo: Bailly left Man United permanently in 2023 after a loan spell with Marseille. He joined Besiktas, and since then, he has played for Villarreal for a year. In the summer, the 31-year-old joined La Liga side Real Oviedo.

RB - Matteo Darmian, Inter Milan: Darmian left United in 2019, and he joined Italian side Parma. He played well upon his return to the Serie A, warranting a move to Inter in 2021. He has since made 119 Serie A appearances for Inter and is now 35 years-old.

Pogba was the star in Man United’s midfield

CM - Ander Herrera, Boca Juniors: Another ex-United player to play for Boca Juniors, Herrera left in 2019 initially for PSG. After playing in Paris for two years, he moved to Athletic Bilbao until the recent summer window, when he moved to Boca Juniors.

CM - Paul Pogba, Monaco: The French international left United in 2022 to re-join Juventus, where he was successful again until he was banned from playing due to a doping ruling. After over a year without football, Pogba joined Monaco in the summer window.

CM - Marouane Fellaini, Retired: The former Man United and Everton midfielder had a spell with Chinese side Shandong Taishan for four years after he left Old Trafford. He retired from the game in February 2024, aged 36.

LW - Jesse Lingard, FC Seoul: Lingard never managed to fully hit his potential after leaving United in 2022. He joined Nottingham Forest, where he spent two years, before being released in 2024. Lingard then moved to Korean side FC Seoul in 2024, where he continues to play aged 32.

RW - Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Inter Milan: Mkhitaryan scored in the 3-0 win against Sunderland. It was one of five Premier League goals he scored for United. He left in 2018 to join Arsenal. Since then, the Armenian international has had spells with Roma and, most recently, Inter Milan, where he has made over 100 Serie A appearances.

ST - Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Retired: Zlatan was simply amazing at United, he scored 29 goals in 53 games, but left the club in 2018 to join LA Galaxy. He has since played for AC Milan in 2020 after making a brief return at the age of 38. However, he retired in 2023 aged 41.
