What David Moyes has Everton doing in training that Jordan Pickford says is so 'important'

Everton need to find a way of scoring goals on a more consistent basis and Jordan Pickford has shared just how they are trying to do that in training.

Monday evening saw Everton only able to find the back of the net once through defender Michael Keane’s impressive header.

Duncan Ferguson was stunned by Keane’s headed goal, which even the Everton hero would have been proud to score.

However, the defender’s goal only highlights the glaring issue currently on Merseyside in Everton’s strikers struggling to score.

David Moyes wanted to address this issue over the summer through the signing of Thierno Barry, but the youngster does not quite look ready.

Beto has not impressed Moyes over the summer and early stages of this season.

Coming away from the game on Monday evening, goalkeeper Pickford shared just what Everton have been practising at Finch Farm that will give fans some optimism.

Recently, Keane hailed Pickford at Everton for not getting the credit he deserves for his performances between the sticks.

Fast forward a few weeks, and it is the England goalkeeper who is praising the defender and the efforts that go in behind the scenes.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo after the match on Monday, Pickford has admitted that set pieces are something Everton are working hard to improve at Finch Farm.

“We know what a goal threat he is. It was a great goal, and I think he was unlucky not to score a few against Villa the other week as well,” Pickford said about Keane.

“We strive on set-pieces. We know how important they are in the modern game, both for and against. We work a lot on them, so it is nice to get your rewards.”

Keane has cemented his spot in Everton’s starting XI with his displays this season, which have earned him a lot of praise.

Given Beto and Thierno Barry are struggling to find the back of the net, having a goal threat like Keane to pop up with the odd goal will prove incredibly handy for Moyes.

Everton need a reliable source of goals

In James Garner, Everton now have a player who is capable of providing some real quality crosses into the box.

Garner has been playing exceptionally well this season and has earned the praise of his manager for his displays.

The midfielder’s cross was directed home by Keane on Monday night, and this level of delivery should be able to get the likes of Beto up and running.

However, there will remain question marks over whether the 27-year-old striker has the quality to lead the line for Everton.

It is believed that Everton are interested in Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus ahead of the January transfer window, but even he has his own limitations.

Creative quality has been added to Everton’s squad this summer, yet the Toffees still lack that finishing touch.
