"Top option"Hurzeler addresses Man United speculation amid Amorim exit talk

Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler said that he is "very happy" at the Amex amid suggestions that Manchester United are considering him as a replacement for Ruben Amorim.

Hurzeler became the youngest permanent head coach in Premier League history at the age of 31 when he took charge of Brighton in July 2024, with his work at FC St. Pauli earning him a job in England's top flight.

Under the now 32-year-old, Brighton have won 25, drawn 16 and lost 12 of their 53 matches, and the former Bayern Munich midfielder is viewed as one of the best young managers in world football.

Man United are believed to be considering Hurzeler as a possible replacement for Amorim, with the Portuguese struggling at Old Trafford.

However, the Brighton boss has insisted that he is "very happy" at the Amex and refused to comment on Amorim's future in Manchester due to his "respect" for the 40-year-old.

Hurzeler "very happy" at Brighton amid Man United talk

"Tough decisions and rumours are always part of this job so you have to accept it, you have to deal with it, but I really want to say that I have a lot of respect for Ruben Amorim so I won't talk about his job or any rumours that might come regarding him," Hurzeler told Sky Sports.

"I'm really privileged to be a coach for Brighton and Hove Albion, I'm very happy here and we still have a lot of work to do."

Amorim is again seemingly in must-win territory at Man United, with the Red Devils preparing to continue their Premier League campaign at home to Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

A lacklustre start to the season has seen the 20-time English champions win just two of their seven matches in all competitions, while they are down in 14th spot in the Premier League table on seven points.

Hurzeler "definitely a top option" to replace Amorim at Man United

According to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, Hurzeler is "definitely a top option" for the Red Devils.

“From what I hear, the Brighton manager is one they’d consider,” he told Football Insider . "There are a few on their list, but he’s definitely a top option because it seems to me they want somebody with a bit of experience in the Premier League.

“I think he’s probably a bit of a different option and a different direction to somebody like Southgate, with the way his teams play, so it’s an alternative. He’s done exceptionally well with Brighton, he’s managed well and coached his side well, because they look like a good team.

“It’s just about whether that would translate to Man United, because it’s a different prospect to a team like Brighton for example, you don’t get away with anything. The pressure often makes a difference too, so they’ll have to assess whether he or any of the other contenders would be able to deal with it.”

Crystal Palace's Oliver Glasner and Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola are also being linked with the top job at Old Trafford, with Amorim seemingly facing an uphill battle.
