Everton 'genius' hails Jack Grealish transfer and outlines why he loves life under David Moyes

Former Everton winger Anders Limpar has been discussing Jack Grealish's impact since he joined the Blues on a season-long loan move from Manchester City

Jack Grealish is still one of the top five players in the Premier League and loves being the star man at Everton.

That’s the verdict of former Blues winger Anders Limpar who was part of the club’s last trophy-winning side in 1995 when they defeated Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United 1-0 in the FA Cup final and was hailed by Joe Royle as being a “genius” and the most naturally talented footballer he ever managed. Grealish became the first £100million Englishman when he moved from home city club Aston Villa to Manchester City in 2021, some six months after David Moyes declared that the Brummie was the Premier League’s best player.

Despite having an integral role in the 2022/23 treble-winning side under Pep Guardiola that lifted the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup, Grealish found himself surplus to requirements at the Etihad Stadium this summer and was left out of the squad for the FIFA Club World Cup. Having sealed his season-long loan move to Hill Dickinson Stadium in August, four assists in his first two starts saw the attacking midfielder named Premier League Player of the Month for the first time in his career in the week of his 30th birthday.

Grealish has now played eight games in total so far for Everton and Limpar reckons the new recruit is still one of the most gifted performers in English top flight football. The former Sweden international told AceOdds.com: “I always liked Jack Grealish. When City were at their best Jack Grealish was on the left and they were peaking.

“I don’t know what it’s like to have a manager like Pep Guardiola but when you’re at City you have so many options. He just became one in the group but even if you’re not playing often for City you’re still one hell of a player. “I was happy he joined Everton because he is possibly in the top five when it comes to players in the Premier League. Just because he was on the bench for City it doesn’t mean he’s a bad player.

“He’s an unbelievable player. It’s the same with Eze, Everton isn’t City.”

Limpar, who was part of Arsenal’s 1991 title-winning side before making his £1.6million switch to Goodison Park on transfer deadline day in 1994, made 82 appearances for Everton and scored six goals. The 60-year-old reckons Grealish will relish being the go-to guy again under Moyes after being surrounded by other expensive acquisitions down the East Lancs Road.

He said: “Jack will be the star again and the team will be looking for him to help them and I think he loves that. To be in the centre, the star.

“It suits him. He’ll get better with that pressure.

“It’s one of the best signings the club have made for a long, long time. He got player of the month playing for Everton and it’s a huge signing for Everton.

“He loves being the star and the name everyone talks about. He loves being central to a team.

“Picking up the ball and creating, crossing, scoring goals, he’s found a role he hasn’t had for a couple of years. City have so many options whereas Everton don’t.”
