What Ralf Rangnick said about Manchester United linked manager Oliver Glasner

Manchester United may have to replace head coach Ruben Amorim with inconsistent results continuing.

To borrow an analogy, Ruben Amorim was attempting to repair a plane in mid-air when he took over at Manchester United in the middle of last season.

Well, this past summer Amorim had the plane back on the runway, made his repairs and reconfiguration, and after take-off, it appears to be heading towards a slow crash-landing already.

We are on record urging Ineos to put together a smart succession plan, and learn from Manchester United’s past failings when they have had to sack managers.

One top option is Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, with journalist Ben Jacobs claiming the Eagles boss would make the switch ‘in a heartbeat’.

Ralf Rangnick has backed Oliver Glasner

Former Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick is a huge admirer of Oliver Glasner. They worked together at Red Bull Salzburg, where Glasner kicked off his coaching career as an assistant.

Speaking in 2023 to Austrian outlet Laola1, Rangnick said: “For me, Oliver Glasner is currently one of the most exciting coaches – not only in Germany, but in all of Europe.

“An absolute top coach,” Rangnick added.

Speaking in his role as Austria coach, Rangnick said he wanted Glasner to inspire a generation of future managers.

“In my opinion, this is an important approach that we must find here in Austria so that we can give as many of the next Oliver Glasners as possible the opportunity to develop precisely such careers.”

Glasner on unbeaten run

Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace are on an unbeaten run stretching 18 games in all competitions, topped off with a win over Liverpool at the weekend.

This run includes a win in the Community Shield against Liverpool, and the FA Cup Final win over Manchester City last May.

Glasner is unbeaten in three career matches managing against Manchester United, winning two and drawing once. One of those victories was a 4-0 win at Selhurst Park.

His Palace side are now competing in the Europa Conference League, but the Austrian could soon have a decision to make over his future, if Manchester United and Ruben Amorim end up parting ways.
