Everton cult hero Andy van der Meyde was as renowned for his performances off the pitch as his talent on it.
The former Toffees midfielder, who turned 46 on Tuesday (30 September), was regarded as good business when David Moyes won the race for his signature in 2005 for a fee around £2million.
However, the Dutchman was found more in the middle of a dance floor than in the a midfield in Merseyside. His evenings out on the town became so famous that his wife even hired a private investigator, who managed to find raunchy videos of him romping with an X-rated worker.
"A private detective had videos and photos of me and my new girlfriend and then my wife rang me and said 'How's your new girlfriend?’" Van der Meyde said in his book ‘The Next Next Big Thing’. “I was still denying it then."
Not that the private investigator would have had to work hard to get his hands on those raunchy videos and photos. Van der Meyde succumbed to the naughty temptations Liverpool had on offer.

Not only was he always far too easily convinced to go to the strip club, he was almost always spotted in and around these establishments by the press and Everton fans alike.
However, his voyage into a Liverpool strip club eventually turned into something more serious when he met a dancer called Lisa, who was “beautiful, like Jordan, amazing”.
"After a couple of hours of alcohol I drove to the nearest strip club,” he said in another book ‘No Mercy’. “Getting drunk in a strip club in the middle of Liverpool was not very smart.

"But I had a strong longing for naked women.” He continued, “I saw a brunette and I wanted to have sex with her. But after I’d had sex with Lisa once I was addicted, she was wild, crazy and horny.”
Van der Meyde's romping and partying habits majorly affected his career at Goodison, as he featured in just 10 games in his first season.
He was then absent from the first-team for over a year from August 2007 after he was suspended for a 'breach of club discipline' when he failed to attend a training session, being fined two weeks' wages.

Van der Meyde didn't feature for the entirety of the 07/08 season, eventually making his comeback during an injury crisis the following season.
But he etched his name in Everton folklore in February 2009 when he assisted Dan Gosling's winner against Liverpool in the FA Cup fourth round replay.
Hopefully, Van der Meyde's choice of birthday activities were somewhat different from his crazy days on Merseyside.
