The Pittsburgh Steelers are hosting five safeties for workouts after Sebastian Castro was ripped from their practice squad by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Castro, 24, slotted into the safety competition but was never able to make a roster push after Chuck Clark was signed. Along with his work at safety, he became a proficient special teamer to make the team. He joined Logan Lee, Yahya Black, and Kaleb Johnson as Iowa Hawkeyes on the team, and the Steelers have drafted two Hawkeyes this year.
Among those players was former TCU safety Mark Perry, who notably chose the Houston Texans over the Steelers at one point last offseason after being offered a deal to sign in Pittsburgh.
Perry, an undrafted free agent in the 2024 NFL Draft, has spent time in multiple places, including the Miami Dolphins, Texans, Patriots, Titans, and Bears since coming into the league.
The team also hosted former Toledo safety Maxen Hook. Hook was on the Eagles’ roster during the summer, but was released during Final Cut downs. Hook was a three-time first-team All-MAC selection.
Meanwhile, the team also hosted safeties Kendall Brooks, Glendon Miller, and Jack Henderson.
Henderson, a former Minnesota standout, spent his preseason with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with the Steelers knowing him from their extensive scouting of the Big 10.
