If the Carolina Panthers make it to the Super Bowl this year, local fans can book special flight through American Airlines to cheer on the team in the Bay Area.
The airline is adding nonstop service from Charlotte Douglas International Airport to San José Mineta International Airport for Super Bowl LX, scheduled for Feb. 8, the company announced Wednesday. The California airport is less than 20 minutes away from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
Four flights between CLT and SJC will be offered during the Super Bowl weekend for anyone who wants to experience the big game.
Flights from Charlotte to SJC will depart at 7:15 a.m. and arrive at 10:06 a.m. on Feb. 5 and Feb. 6. A second flight will depart CLT at 6 p.m. and arrive in San José around 9 p.m. The flight will take about six hours.
On Feb. 9, a morning flight departing SJC for Charlotte is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. and arrives at 3:34 p.m. Another morning flight will leave the San Jose airport and land in Charlotte at 7:14 p.m.
Tickets are available to purchase on aa.com. The cost of a roundtrip ticket in the main cabin is around $1,120, and a first-class ticket is about $3,600, according to the website.
American will consider opportunities for more fan flights for the teams playing in the game as the season continues.
The airline is also adding special flights to San Jose from Phoenix, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, and Dallas-Fort Worth area for the game.
American expands flight schedule
American Airlines is expanding its schedule with several seasonal and new routes from Charlotte.
For hot air balloon enthusiasts, American is launching flights to Albuquerque International Sunport in New Mexico on Friday for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. The flights will run through Oct. 13. Held in the first week of October, the event is known as the world’s largest hot air balloon festival.
Later this year, American is expanding its winter schedule with a new nonstop route from Charlotte to Vail, Colorado, after announcing the service in July for the popular ski destination. Flights between Eagle County Regional Airport and Charlotte Douglas will operate from Dec. 19 through Jan. 5. The service will return on Feb. 12 and will continue through April 6.
Along with Vail, flights between CLT and Aspen, Colorado, will start on Dec. 19. The flight to Aspen/Pitkin County Airport is a new route for Charlotte Douglas, according to the airline. American is the only airline to serve these Rocky Mountain destinations.
And before the big game, American Airlines is starting another flight to Southern California. The airline is adding a nonstop flight between Charlotte and Palm Springs International Airport on Dec. 20. The seasonal service to the popular desert destination will run through April 18.
Following the Super Bowl, a nonstop flight from Charlotte to Vero Beach, Florida, in the state’s Treasure Coast region, will begin on Feb. 12 with daily year-round service between the beach destination and CLT.

The airline provides flights to more than 170 destinations in 27 countries worldwide at CLT through its global network.
Charlotte Douglas is the sixth-busiest airport in the world for takeoffs and landings, according to preliminary rankings released in April by Airports Council International. The airport had 596,583 flights last year—an 11% increase over 2023, when it was ranked seventh internationally.
